From Conference 2027 to awards, scholarships and new courses - this is what’s coming up at AITD.

Dear Learners,

We’re gearing up to develop the program for the AITD Conference 2027, to be held in Canberra from 28–30 April, and are now inviting speaker expressions of interest.

We’re looking for practical ideas, compelling case studies, new perspectives and evidence of what is making a genuine difference in contemporary learning and development.

We want to take our community on an engaging journey through the evolving L&D landscape—exploring what is happening, what is working, what we need to prepare for and how we can apply these ideas in practice. Attendees will have opportunities to workshop ideas with their peers, build meaningful relationships and learn alongside some of Australia’s leading practitioners, as well as those growing and emerging within the profession.

AITD aims to make the conference a rewarding, empowering and memorable experience for attendees and speakers alike. Find out more and submit a speaker EOI.

Also on the near horizon are applications for the AITD Excellence Awards, with new categories recognising achievement in AI, L&D team leadership and learning impact. Applications open on 1 September. You can now review the award categories and assessment criteria.

We are also seeking judges with the experience and credentials to help us recognise and promote excellence across the profession. If you would like to contribute, please nominate to become an Excellence Awards judge.

The AITD Emerging Professional Scholarship also opens on 1 September, with a new selection of topics designed to encourage emerging practitioners to contribute their thinking to the profession. Learn more about the scholarship.

Alongside these nationwide opportunities, we are delighted to offer two new courses:

  • Strategic Partnering and Influencing in L&D
  • Measuring Learning Impact and Designing for ROI

You can view course details and book through our website.

We are also finalising representation on AITD’s local divisional councils. As details are confirmed, you will be able to see who your local representatives are and what events are coming up through our Divisional Councils pages. Simply select your state or territory to view the latest information.

There is much more happening across AITD, including divisional events and networking opportunities; courses in neuroscience, AI, instructional design and facilitation skills; our next magazine edition; and a growing range of free member resources aligned with the AITD Capability Framework and available through the member portal.

And there is still more to come. Stay tuned for the launch of our new self-paced learning modules—affordable, practical and comprehensive introductions to key topics, with pathways into our full courses for those wanting to develop their capability further.

Regards,

Ben Campbell | Chief Executive Officer

⭐ Volunteer Spotlight - Jessica Otto

This month’s Volunteer Spotlight celebrates Jessica Otto, who joined AITD’s QLD/NT Divisional Council as a volunteer in 2024 and, in 2026, expanded her contribution by becoming an AITD Board Director representing Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Jessica has a particular interest in helping emerging facilitators and L&D practitioners build confidence, navigate challenges and consider where their professional development might take them next. Jessica also gives her time as a mentor through AITD’s mentoring program and shared her expertise with the wider community as a speaker at the 2024 AITD National Conference in Adelaide. Jessica was also part of the Isuzu UTE Australia team recognised as a finalist in the Best Blended Learning Solution category at the 2024 AITD Excellence Awards.
