Enabling Capability Through Learning, Research

and Connection

Dear Learners,

As we settle into a new financial year, I wanted to share a few of the projects and initiatives currently underway across AITD.

One area of focus has been continuing to build out the resources connected to the AITD Capability Framework. Over recent months, we've strengthened the links between the Framework and our courses, webinars and other learning opportunities to make it easier for members to identify development options aligned to professional goals. The introduction of our new Strategic Partnering & Influencing course is one outcome of that work, with further development currently underway in Evaluation and Impact.

Many members are also taking advantage of our growing library of webinar recordings and professional development resources, providing the opportunity to revisit key topics and explore new ideas at a time that suits them.

AITD is further undertaking research into L&D career pathways to better understand how people enter the profession, build capability and progress throughout their careers. We look forward to sharing more about that work in the months ahead.

Members will shortly receive the next edition of Training & Development magazine, Reskilling for a Changing World, exploring how organisations and individuals are responding to changing skill requirements and what this means for the future of learning and development.

And looking ahead, registrations for the 2027 AITD National Conference at Hotel Realm Canberra, from 28-30 April 2027, will be opening soon. Planning is already underway and we're looking forward to sharing more about the program over the coming months.

This year will also see the introduction of new categories in the annual AITD Excellence Awards, creating additional opportunities to recognise achievement, innovation and impact across the profession.

There is plenty happening across the Institute, and we look forward to keeping you updated as these projects continue to develop.

Regards,

Ben Campbell | Chief Executive Officer

Divisional Council FY27

On the Ground: AITD Highlights

👥 ACT Division – What Happens at Conference Stays at Conference...or does it? – Canberra, 15 July

AITD's ACT Division recently welcomed Canberra L&D professionals to an interactive networking event designed to bring the insights and ideas from the AITD National Conference back to the local community.

Through facilitated discussions, participants explored practical topics including engaging Gen Z learners, using AI to support evaluation, applying neuroscience-informed approaches to learning design, strengthening storytelling skills and supporting early-career L&D practitioners. The evening provided an opportunity to share experiences, exchange ideas and consider how these insights can be applied in everyday practice.

👥 NSW Division – Leading Through Disruption – Sydney, 2 July

AITD's NSW Division recently welcomed Sydney L&D professionals for an engaging networking event exploring the role of emotional intelligence in today's rapidly changing workplace.

Led by Dr Benjamin Palmer, the session examined the emotional intelligence behaviours that matter most in an environment shaped by AI disruption, economic pressure and ongoing uncertainty. Participants explored the importance of developing greater self-awareness to bring more clarity, understanding and value to the people they work with, creating a positive ripple effect across teams, leaders and workplace culture.
