Success as L&D professionals gather for AITD2023 conference in Sydney

After months of planning and many hours of preparation, AITD 2023 is over for another year and what a resounding success it was! Held at the Novotel Sydney Central on 22 and 23 June 2023, AITD’s signature event provided the first opportunity for members and the L&D community to come together at an in-person conference since the beginning of the pandemic.

We have been truly humbled by the number of L&D professionals from around Australia who seized upon the opportunity to learn about the latest trends and developments from leading experts across many sectors, as well as take the time to network, meet up and re-connect with friends and colleagues from near and far.

This year, attendees had the opportunity to maximise their conference experience by attending a pre-conference workshop, which showcased case studies from past winners of the AITD Excellence Awards. With the theme Excellence in Action, frontline L&D professionals presented real-life L&D projects and provided practical ideas and solutions to successfully tackle common issues faced by many industries in the L&D space. We extend a special thank you to Michelle Ockers and Anneli Blundell for hosting this very successful and highly informative session.

The conference agenda over the two days following the workshop was jam-packed with a diverse and high-quality program of Australian and international L&D experts. Topics ranged from cutting-edge tools and technologies to best practices and theories, ensuring every delegate was able to walk away with valuable insights they can now implement in their workplace. Industry visionaries and renowned thought leaders Nigel Paine, Charles Jennings and Ger Dreisen shared their ideas and insights into the latest L& D trends and partnered with our own Michelle Ockers and Chemene Sinson to provide seamless facilitation of our keynote sessions. We also heard from social researcher Claire Madden helping us to engage with the emerging generation of learners, and Rear Admiral (Rtd) Peg Klein from the US Navy who presented her insights on ethical culture in leadership.

Of course, an event like this involves many people to make it the success it is. We extend a very big thank you to all our wonderful presenters for generously sharing their knowledge, time and expertise, and contributing to our L&D profession. A massive shout-out to our conference sponsors: Peeplcoach, Elev8 and Guild Insurance. Not only were they on-hand for the duration of the conference to assist with questions, but our leading vendors also provided attendees with the chance to participate in live demonstrations showcasing innovative tech. Special mention to our major sponsor Peeplcoach, who generously donated several fantastic coaching packages, which were very well received by the winners!

And finally, thank you to everyone who attended AITD 2023. Plans are already underway for AITD 2024, and we look forward to seeing you all again next year for what promises to be another outstanding event!
