You'll learn how to design, build and test your own AI instructor to deliver engaging learning scenarios with expert facilitators Vince Mateljan and Sarah Mateljan. This is a half-day, face-to-face workshop.

Content

Build Your Own AI Instructor is a practical response to a real pressure L&D teams are under: turning static online training into dynamic, personalised instruction, without the time and technical complexity that usually comes with it. Facilitated by Vincent and Sarah Mateljan of GenLearn, who bring extensive experience developing AI-powered learning experiences across a range of industries, the session runs face to face in Perth (Cliftons) over a single half day.

The workshop opens by unpacking what AI instructors actually are and how they differ from chatbots and standard AI tools, before moving into the design considerations that make them effective and safe, like use-case identification, lesson design, safety guardrails, delivery and measurement.

The highlight of the day is the hands-on build exercise: you'll create and test your own AI instructor using ChatGPT or Gemini. The session closes with real-world case studies from VET and corporate training on when and why to use AI instructors, and a wrap-up on the key takeaways to bring back to your organisation.

Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

understand what an AI instructor is and where it fits in a blended or self-paced learning strategy
design a structured instructor persona and prompt framework for a real piece of your own content
build and test a working AI instructor prototype using ChatGPT or Gemini
apply techniques to keep AI-generated responses accurate, on-track and pedagogically sound
learn how to test and improve your AI instructor to be safe, secure, and focus on the topic at hand
leave with a reusable prompt template you can adapt to future AI Instructors

This course is designed for L&D professionals, instructional designers, trainers and facilitators who want to move from talking about AI to actually building with it. Suited to anyone with basic familiarity with a Gen AI tool like ChatGPT or Gemini - no coding or technical background required. Come with a paid account for either ChatGPT, Gemini, or CoPilot (any plan tier is okay, including the lowest tier) already set up and ready to go.
