Frequently asked questions

Who is the Needs Analysis course for?

L&D practitioners, coordinators, learning designers, learning consultants and HR or capability professionals who are asked to solve performance problems or build training. It suits people who already design or deliver learning and want a clear, evidence-based process for finding the real need.

What is a training needs analysis?

A training needs analysis is the process of finding the gap between current and desired performance, working out what is causing it, and deciding whether learning will close it. Often the cause is a system, process or environment issue rather than a skills gap, so a good needs analysis saves time and money.

What will I learn?

Performance consulting, finding the presenting problem, triggers and drivers, internal and external factors, working with stakeholders, research and data gathering methods, data storytelling, skills gap analysis and future skills, deciding when learning is part of the solution, and presenting recommendations.

How is the course delivered and how long does it take?

It is a one-day course, 9:00am to 4:30pm, run face to face at a city training venue or live online via Zoom. Online, you can also take it as two half-day sessions. You receive a short learning primer before the course and practical templates to take away, and you earn an AITD certificate and a digital badge. In-house delivery brings the course to your team, online or at a location of your choice.

How does this course connect to the AITD Capability Framework?

It is mapped to the AITD Capability Framework at an intermediate level, building capability in Needs Analysis, Stakeholder Engagement and Organisational Capability Building. See the AITD Capability Framework for the full set of L&D capabilities.

Can AITD run this course for my team?

Yes. AITD delivers Needs Analysis exclusively for your organisation, online or at a location of your choice, and can tailor the scenario to your context. Find out more about in-house delivery.
