Divisional Councils

AITD has six Divisional Councils and each Divisional Council member is elected by the members within their Division. Elections are held each year and the period in office runs from 1 September to 31 August each year.

AITD Divisional Councils are where passionate learning and development professionals come together to make a difference. The primary role of a Divisional Council is to plan and deliver local professional development and networking opportunities that help practitioners build capability, connect with peers and grow professionally.

Working as part of a state or territory-based team, Divisional Councillors help create valuable learning experiences, strengthen professional networks, support member engagement and ensure AITD remains connected to the needs of practitioners across Australia.

As a Divisional Council member, you'll have the opportunity to:

Help shape professional development and networking opportunities for practitioners in your state or territory.
Share your ideas, expertise and insights to support the learning and development community.
Collaborate with other passionate professionals who are committed to advancing the profession.
Build valuable connections with peers, industry leaders and emerging practitioners.
Play an active role in supporting AITD's Conference, Awards Program and other initiatives.
Contribute to activities that help practitioners develop their capability and achieve better outcomes through learning.

Current AITD members are encouraged to apply.

If you are not currently an AITD member, you're still welcome to apply for both AITD membership and a Divisional Council position. Successful applicants will be required to become and remain a financial member of AITD throughout their Council term.

What's involved?

Divisional Council members contribute throughout the year by helping to plan and support local professional development and networking activities, participating in Council discussions and working collaboratively with fellow volunteers, their Divisional President and the AITD team.

Most Councils meet monthly online and share responsibilities across the team, creating a flexible and supportive volunteer experience.

Applications close on Friday 7 August 2026 at 5.00pm AEST.

As part of the application process, applicants will be asked to:

Provide a LinkedIn profile or CV/resume.
Outline the skills and experience they would bring to the role.
Describe how they would contribute to AITD and the broader L&D profession.
Complete a declaration regarding conflicts of interest and Council responsibilities.

Depending on the number of applicants, the process may include a discussion with AITD representatives and, where required, a member election process.
