About Me

Rick has more than 30 years’ experience working in adult education; specialising in risk, crisis and emergency management. Since establishing Tigertail in 2010, Rick has successfully delivered strategies to build resilience and mitigate risks in public and private sector organisations. He has designed and delivered training and emergency exercises at strategic, operational and tactical levels, including testing senior leadership teams. A highly-experienced trainer and facilitator, Rick conducts annual Public Health Commander training for NSW and ACT Health, has run crisis and incident management training for private sector and government clients, and presented at national and international conferences.
Rick was integral in development of NSW emergency preparedness through his role as Principal Planning Officer for the State Emergency Management Committee in the early 2000s. He was the emergency management advisor for the NSW equine influenza outbreak and provided strategic advice to the government during significant natural disasters.
Rick spent ten years as the Training Manager for the NSW State Emergency Service, where he reinvented the training system, gaining Registered Training Organisation status, and introducing a structured competency-based learning and development program. He was instrumental in developing the Public Safety Training Package and was on the Board of the Industry Training Advisory Body for seven years. Rick served in the Royal Australian Navy full time for ten years and as a Reserve Officer for another twenty, working in diverse areas including as Honorary Aide de Camp to the NSW Governor and as a facilitator in the leadership and culture development team.
Rick has a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science, Graduate Diploma in Disaster Management, Master’s degree in Adult Education and holds a commercial pilot licence (helicopter). He is a member of the Australian Institute of Training and Development, the Business Continuity Institute and Simulation Australasia.
